Our production process is based primarily around a full rock band's needs.
Through the latest digital technologies, Unrestrained Studios offers the proper isolation necessary while simultaneously
recording multiple guitars, bass, keyboards, and synths, as well as a full drum kit. This process captures
the true "live" essance of a band's performance.
Recording:
The recording process involves set up, tuning, planning,
mic placement, rough equalization of guitars, and performance coaching concluding with the
final recorded "performance." During this process we will discuss the over all "sound" of the band
or recording that is desired. Furthermore, the basic sound and/or effects used for any instruments will be prepared.
Thankfully, due to digital recording capabilities, any guitar sound can be completely and 100% changed after the recordings.
ex. A distorted guitar can be converted to a clean channel, or a solo recorded with too much reverb can have the
effect taken off. Because of this freedom, it is not technically necessary to agree on a perfect produced "sound"
until after the recording has taken place. For the drum kit, the same idea applies towards equalization.
Because of modern technology, this entire process that was once necessary before recording, can now be done afterwards.
These freedoms significantly reduces the "pre-production" period, saving the band much needed time and money.
Editing:
The process of editing allows one to take a semi-decent performance and create
a masterpiece from it. Features in editing are simple and can be compared to a text document.
Basic features such as "cutting" , "copying" , and "pasting" allow the producer to alter the recordings, cleaning
up the performance, and even removing mistakes completely.
Mixing & Mastering:
The mixing and mastering processes involve the producers creativity and ability
to influence the music after it's already been recorded. Such techniques may involve deciding on the appropriate volumes
for each of the recorded tracks, as well as changing those volumes throughout the piece to highten the emotional experience.
Room effects, or reverbs, delays, chorus, flangers, ect. are routinely added to spice up the mix. Lastly, compressors
and/or limiters may be added to any or all tracks to control and tighten the overall sound.
